UAE Bank Loan Travel Ban 2026: Official Checks and Removal Steps

Last updated: August 2026. This page is for a person who needs to find out whether a UAE court or prosecution restriction may stop departure because of a bank debt.

What to do first

  1. Ask the bank whether a legal case was filed, and request the case number and court.
  2. Check that court or police channel; there is no single public ICP search that reliably replaces every emirate’s case system.
  3. If a ban exists, obtain the court order details before paying or signing anything.
  4. After settlement, verify that the creditor filed the required release and that the competent authority removed the restriction.

A loan balance is not proof of a travel ban

A UAE civil travel ban is a judicial order. Under Article 324 of the Civil Procedure Code, a creditor may ask the competent judge for an order when the statutory conditions are met. Those conditions include serious reasons to fear the debtor’s departure and, generally, a debt of at least AED 10,000 that is due and supported by written evidence. The application can be made before the main lawsuit.

This means neither of these statements is safe: “three missed payments automatically cause a ban” or “a debt under AED 10,000 has no consequences.” Ask for the actual case number and order.

Where to check

Situation Official starting point What you need
Financial case in Dubai Dubai Police app, website services, or a Smart Police Station, as linked by the UAE Government portal Emirates ID and any police or case reference
Case in Abu Dhabi Abu Dhabi Judicial Department e-services, including Estafser and case inquiries UAE Pass or case details, depending on the service
Public prosecution matter UAE Public Prosecution inquiry linked by the UAE Government portal Identity and reference details
You do not know the emirate or court The bank’s legal or collections department Ask for court, case number, filing date, creditor, and current order status

Do not rely only on an immigration-status screen, a typing centre’s verbal answer, or a screenshot from an unofficial “ban checker.” The official UAE Government page advises checking and resolving any issue that may stop you at immigration and seeking a lawyer or the nearest immigration office or police station when necessary.

The exact questions to send the bank

  • Has a police report, civil claim, execution file, or travel-ban application been filed?
  • What is the court or authority and case number?
  • What amount is claimed, including charges and legal costs?
  • What written payment or settlement options are available?
  • After payment, which team files the withdrawal or clearance and what proof will I receive?

If you agree a repayment or settlement

Get the terms on bank letterhead or through the bank’s authenticated channel. The document should identify the account, accepted amount, due dates, whether the payment is full and final settlement, and what the bank will file with the court. A receipt alone does not prove that a court order has been removed.

The Central Bank’s Consumer Protection Standards say a lender that agrees a revised repayment arrangement must provide the consumer with a written explanation and revised schedule. If the problem is the bank’s handling rather than the validity of the debt, complain to the bank first and then use Sanadak when eligible.

How removal is confirmed

The competent court or authority removes the order; the bank cannot clear an active judicial restriction merely by saying “paid” on the phone. Abu Dhabi Judicial Department’s published removal form, for example, asks for proof from the Enforcement Division that the debt was paid or a creditor clearance. The exact filing differs by emirate and case type.

  1. Pay only through the agreed, traceable channel.
  2. Collect the settlement letter and receipt.
  3. Ask for the creditor’s court filing reference.
  4. Check the issuing court or authority again.
  5. Do not book an inflexible flight until the official status is clear.

What this guide cannot predict

There is no honest universal promise that a bank waits two months, that a court grants a ban after 120 days, or that removal takes one to five working days. Timelines depend on the creditor, evidence, court, service completion, and whether there are other cases. Emergency travel documents also do not cancel a court order.
