Quick answer
After a Kuwait work-residence cancellation, get a copy of the cancellation record and check the exact status and permitted-stay deadline through the MOI residency inquiry or Sahel. Do not count 90 days from the day your employer spoke to you. The date that matters is the date and status recorded by immigration, including any temporary residence that was actually granted.
Why there is no safe one-number answer
“Visa cancellation” is often used for several different events: cancellation of a work permit, cancellation of Article 18 residence, expiry without renewal, transfer to another employer, or a temporary residence issued while a case is resolved. Those events do not necessarily create the same departure deadline.
Kuwait’s official Article 18 cancellation service lists the application and documents for cancelling private-sector work residence, but it does not publish a universal 90-day grace period for every cancelled worker. Your own MOI record is therefore more reliable than a number copied from a forum, recruiter, or old article.
Check these three records in order
1. Work-permit status
Ask the employer for the work-permit cancellation document. If there is a wage or employment dispute, use the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) complaint service and keep the complaint reference. A PAM labour complaint and your MOI residence status are connected in practice but are not the same record.
2. Residence cancellation or expiry
Use Kuwait Government Online’s MOI residency and immigration inquiry, the official MOI service, or Sahel. Check the status yourself with your Civil ID details. Save a screenshot that shows the date.
3. Any temporary residence or transfer permission
If an official tells you that you may stay temporarily, ask for the expiry date in writing or verify that it appears in the MOI system. A pending salary complaint by itself should not be treated as proof that immigration time has stopped.
A practical timeline after cancellation
- Same day: obtain the cancellation document and check your Civil ID and residence status.
- Before signing a settlement: compare the amount offered with unpaid salary, leave balance, end-of-service dues, and notice pay.
- If money is missing: file or preserve the PAM complaint and keep the reference.
- If leaving Kuwait: check immigration fines, travel-ban information, passport validity, and the recorded departure deadline through official systems.
- If transferring: confirm the new employer’s permit and residence steps before assuming the old cancellation is solved.

If you are outside Kuwait
Do not confuse cancellation after employment ends with the separate rule about remaining outside Kuwait for more than six months. Kuwait Government Online provides an official service for permission to stay outside the country for more than six months in applicable cases. Check that service before a long absence rather than assuming a residence remains valid.

- Counting from a verbal notice. Check the date recorded by MOI.
- Assuming every worker receives 90 days. The official Article 18 cancellation page does not state that universal rule.
- Assuming a labour complaint extends residence automatically. Confirm immigration status separately.
- Using an old daily-fine figure. Check the amount in the official inquiry because fees and procedures can change.
- Leaving without copies. Save the cancellation, complaint, salary, and residence records before access to employer systems is removed.
